Kia ora! We are Premmie Knitting Club.
A virtual tribe of knitters knitting for premature babies and fundraising for preemie related causes.
We’re celebrating 10 years of wrapping Aotearoa’s tiniest babies in warmth, love, and hope through our knitting donations and fundraising.
To mark this milestone, we’re aiming to donate as many peggy square blankets as possible to hospitals across Aotearoa and we’d love your help!
The ask of you
Watch our 1 minute video of PKC Founder, Courtney talking about our Peggy Square project.
We’re asking you, as a well known Kiwi, to knit one peggy square. Every square counts, and together we can stitch up something amazing!
20 squares make a blanket and the idea is that we’ll have blankets made up of squares knitted by everyone in our community from sports people to politicians, media personalities, content creators, influencers and everyday New Zealanders. Our goal is to create hundreds of blankets to donate to Neonatal Intensive Care Units across Aotearoa.
We’re asking everyone to get their knitting needles out to support us and make this a true community effort!

Why Peggy Squares
A Peggy square is a knitted square, typically measuring 15 x 15cm. These squares are sewn together to create blankets.
Peggy squares are an excellent starting point for beginner knitters, as the project is simple and manageable in size—perfect for learning basic stitches and techniques without tackling complex patterns or large items.
Making Peggy squares allows new knitters to practise skills, build confidence, and contribute to a worthy cause, with individual squares later joined to form the finished blanket.
About Premmie Knitting Club
PKC is a registered NZ charity and a virtual tribe of knitters knitting for premature babies and fundraising for preemie related causes. We are an entirely volunteer (and women run) organisation.
Each year, we donate thousands of knitted items to support Aotearoa’s most vulnerable babies in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs), anything from blankets to singlets, cardigans and more, we work directly with the hospitals to understand what is most needed.
