Knitter Cate
World Prematurity Day is coming up on November 17th and the theme this year is ‘a strong start for a hopeful future’. At PKC, we are sharing stories from our community in the lead up including preemie babies, our wonderful knitters and supporters.
Cate is a generous PKC knitter!
What inspires you to knit for premature babies and their families?
Cate: I always think about how scary it must be for families to see their tiny baby in the nicu and feel so helpless. They inspire me to use fun colours in my knitting which I hope can bring them a bit of joy on the tough days.
How does being part of this community make World Prematurity Day special for you?
Cate: It sounds pretty cheesey but I am constantly so inspired by and in awe of the generosity and creativity of the premmie knitting club community! This day is such a special reminder of how strong, resilient and kind people are!
What do you hope each tiny hat or blanket communicates to the families who receive them?
Cate: I hope that my little knit gifts let families know that they are so loved and are not alone! I’m just a mum who likes to knit a bit in my spare time so I don’t make as many things as I would like to but I hope that the babies can feel how much love is knitted in to my items!
